The World And The Influences It Has On Us

In my personal opinion, the world that we live in and experience influence us in major ways. These influences may be good or bad, large or small however each one makes an impact in our lives. The human race is always consuming ideas and media. Most of these influences come from social media and other forms of technology, such as T.V and Internet.

An example of such an influence would be the website www.reddit.com. Reddit, is a website where people post links, and users vote on those links, determining what links are the best and which are the worst. Reddit is extremely good at what it does, and since there are over 85 million unique visitors of the site, it influences many different people.

The culture of reddit is unique because of how it influences people. In 2008 reddit voted to name a whale being saved by Greenpeace Mr. Splashy Pants gathering over 78% of all votes. This influence that reddit had over the community just proves how external sources can influence people.

Sites such as www.reddit.com impact people in many unique ways. These sites change viewpoints, and generate new ideas that impact our everyday lives. In the future, I can only foresee these influences becoming stronger, which can be a very good, or a very bad thing.

Mise-en Scene

In this medium shot the audience can see Walter and Phyllis in a grocery store. Both are looking at some food which is perfectly placed on the shelf while they are talking about how to kill Plyllis's husband. I believe that this a nice juxtaposition because all all of the food is perfectly stacked representing order however Walter and Phyllis are talking about murder, which obviously is orderly at all. Adding these perfectly stacked food items adds some sort of looming feeling to the scene. This feeling might be the magnitude of what Walter and Phyllis are trying to do. I believe that the shot would be very different without it. This technique of adding items to the shot, called mise-en scene, is used in other shots in addition to this one. 

In the Scene of the Moment

There are two subjects in the frame. One is John Anderton and the other is the "mother of pre-crime", Dr. Iris Hineman. Both subjects arre portrayed very differently in the film. John Anderton is only wearing black and has a stern look on his face. On the other side of the frame, Dr. Iris Hineman, is wearing a very light color and is holding a plant. Both Anderton and Dr. Iris Hineman draw the eye toward themselves because they are framed within the rule of thirds. 

In the foregrond we can see John and Hineman talking to each other. However in the background, the setting is a lush greenhouse. During this scene the director wants us to focus on John and Hineman talking to each other. The director wants us to realize how important the scene is be focusing on only the two characters. I believe that since he only wants us to focus on the characters, then the scene must be of great importance. 

The lighting of this scene is coming from behind Anderton. It makes him look slightly darker, however the background is slightly lighter. The opposite is said for Hineman. The light is directly on her face, however the background is slighty darker.This scene might show that Hineman might know something Aderton does not because of the light on her face which usually shows understanding. 

This type of shot is called a medium shot. Everything below the actors waist is cut only showing the upper halves of their bodies. This enchances the shot by emphasizing, not only their facial expressions, but also their stances and how far they are from each other. This type of shot fames the background nicely and lets the audience know where Anderton and Hineman are. By being a medium shot, the audience is able to see what the characters are doing in addition to the background which enhances the shot greatly. 

I believe that being in a greenhouse adds a lot to the scene. By having a mostly green background, Anderton stands out because he is wearing only black. In addition to this, Hineman is wearing pink, a very innocent color, which makes her blend with the scene. In a very fast paced movie, being in a green house slows the movie down so that the audience can focus on the setting and the exchange of words between the characters.
